Annual Shoes That Fit "Heart & Sole" Event
Hacienda Heights Kiwanis Club, with the sponsorship of the Rowland Heights Senior Pathfinders, held their annual “Heart and Sole” Shoes That Fit event at the Rowland Unified Family Resource Center (FRC). With the help of the FRC staff, 125 students were identified to receive a new pair of shoes, a pair of socks, a hand made blanket, a box of Girl Scout cookies and a book to take home. All of the students were also given the opportunity to make personal thank you notes for the generosity of our sponsors.
Attending the event, besides the families who participated, was: Dr. Julie Mitchell, Superintendent Rowland Unified (RUSD) and Ian Calderon, Assembly Member 57th District who presented Assembly Certificates of Appreciation to RUSD and our Kiwanis Club. Club members Dave Wallach, Lon Salgren, Anna Wu, and David Malkin, and Senior Pathfinder Pearl Chu were there with the FRC staff to serve the families. Meagan Hernandez and Ashley Kim, SLP Glenn A Wilson High School, came to our rescue and played an important role in keeping the families moving through the different stations.
By the end of the event 105 students went home with smiles on their faces and a new bounce in their steps. This is our 7th year doing the project.
